Once again last night, IMHO, we witnessed a dude that just loves to play the game of football. Screw the money, the pain and the haters. Guaranteed, as the game got closer and Favre saw the weather and the opportunity to play outside in conditions where he thrives he just had to play. Had to. It welled up inside him and his love of football willed him onto that field. And along with that decision came piles of pundits (professional and amateur) lavishing some praise but mostly disdain at his decision.
So I'm thinking back to this past weekend having watched the taped coverage of the Ironman World Championships in Kona. As per usual, NBC intersperses everyman stories of courage throughout the coverage of the pro race (appropriately enough as triathlon is a sport fueled by everyday age group athletes). If you watched you will recall the woman who completed the race in a walking boot due to a stress fracture that occurred during training. And I bet there wasn't one person (other than her orthopedist) watching her on TV who didn't think this was anything short of inspirational. She was overcoming personal pain to do what she is so desperately passionate about.
So why the hate for the former and the love for the latter?
