Nice Try Mother Nature

It's been a while, but I'm glad to be back!  We took a little hiatus to try and figure out the direction we want to go with this little blog.  And while we don't have everything figured out yet, I know I missed writing and will be back here more often!  Now that we're back, if there's anything you like, don't like or would like us to write more about, please let us know!  It's nice to hear from our (maybe three?) readers!

So after our ridiculously gorgeous March here in Chicago, we've reverted to a much more typical spring.  Yes, that means it's back to 40 degrees at the end of April.  When I went to bed last night, my trusty Weather Channel app told me the forecast for 6am was rain, wind and high 30s.  I had a long run (1:40) on the schedule and told myself it was non-negotiable.  Running on the treadmill was out of the question.  And I had too much to do to wait until later in the day to get it done.  So running in the crap weather it would have to be.

And Mother Nature did not disappoint.  I woke up to 42 degrees, pouring rain and 17mph winds.  Before I could think much, I got out of bed and got ready.  Took our little Lancer outside (felt bad for him....it was my choice to go running in the nasty weather, but to have no choice but to do your business outside in that nastiness?  poor little fella!) and prepped my nutrition.  Then out the door I went....

9.4 miles later I was back home.  It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't the most pleasant run either. I was soaked through, soooooo freezing cold for most of the run. My new HR zones (we did a run LT test last week) have me running at a slower pace and it felt super easy. I guess that's how it's supposed to be and it was a good feeling to finish and feel like I had so much left in the tank. The only real problem is my right achilles. It was sore before the run, felt fine during and really tightened up after. This is the achilles I've had trouble with for years, so just need to watch it and maybe add some ice to the mix.

My favorite recovery, especially after a cold run!

And as I sit here writing this, I'm sporting my new 2XU recovery compression socks which I absolutely adore.

About 3:30 bike/run on the docket tomorrow and I'm hoping Mother Nature will be a bit more kind to us.  We won't know until the alarm goes off at 5am tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

Totally jealous of those socks. Also love that you stopped at 6 am to smile for a photo. I usually only scowl before about 9 a.m.
