A New Week

I don't know about you all, but I am VERY happy that it's Monday and a new week is ahead. Last week was a tough one to say the least.

We spent the weekend catching up at home and catching up with friends at a Salt Creek Tri Club social. It was fun to relax and unwind a bit after such a stressful week.

At Hillgrove Wine Cellars with my friend Laura

I also spent the weekend trying to re-acquaint myself with long workouts. I am about 95% recovered from my surgery, but these workouts were a reminder that I'm just not all the way there yet.

SATURDAY:
1h 48m 24.40 miles

5:30 AM

On the trainer. This is all I could take. Had to fight for every minute. I don't know what my deal is, but my heart rate was running SUPER high. No matter what I did I couldn't get into Zone 2, so most of this was done in high Zone 3. So frustrating.

SUNDAY:
1h 17m 10s 7.18 miles 10m 45s/Mi

7:00 AM

First long run post-surgery. This was tough. Legs felt heavy and awkward....no doubt from yesterday's long ride. Never got into a good rhythm and felt pretty labored the whole time. Tried to pick it up during the 8 minute tempo sections, but just didn't have much to give. Still, not a bad effort for my longest run in five weeks. From my splits I clearly went out too fast....

33m 11s 1500.00 yards 02m 13s /100 yards

9:30 AM

Did this about an hour after the long run. Mentally tough to stay focused, but I got it done. Did the best I could today. It will get better.

All in all, not a bad effort for less than five weeks post-surgery. It's those races hanging over my head that continue to give me pause. But this is a new week and I look forward to giving the best I can every day. It's going to be a crazy one -- between work and home activities -- but I'm committed to fueling my body well and continuing to build back my fitness.

What's on your plan for this week?

Happy Training!

So happy to see you back in action! And don't sell yourself short. Those workouts are incredible accomplishments considering what your body has been through. Soon enough you will be back to 100% and feeling great! :)
