Schrodinger's foot

Schmitty is STILL recovering from his stress fracture. No Bruckelaufe Half Marathon this weekend. No Naperville Half Marathon in November. In fact, time was running out on Schmitty to get in fighting shape for the WDW Marathon in January. So I tried switching my registration to the half instead. However, with both races being sold out, "the most magical place on Earth" told me - bibbidi bobbidi, um no. Which made this Mouseketeer just a little sad (they did say I could defer to 2015...so not a total loss). So now Schmitty has no carrot. #nomotivation #mytrainingblows I haven't run a step in 8 weeks and I don't feel any discomfort in my foot when I walk. So am I recovered? Am I all healed? I'm not quite sure. As long as I don't run the status of my foot remains the same. That is to say -- I am recovering. And I have grown to be fine with that. "Recovering" has kind of a positive vibe to it. But what If I do run and I feel pain? If I feel p

My First Triathlon: HIM

At the start of the year the endurance trade pubs are chalk full of hot new training tips, the latest gear and the most fool proof plans. It's that time to sign up for races and kick start our training. All this got me thinking about my first race. That's the beauty of our sport...all of us from pro to age grouper has had to crack the seal on that first race. And unless your name is Scott Schmeiser, a good many of those first races -- especially a first triathlon -- were clunkers. (just kidding Scott...but seriously, you have never had a bad race, have you.) Why I remember my first triathlon like it was...... 2005 Reed's Lake Triathlon Grand Rapids - ish, Michigan SW: 800M BK: 18mi RN: 5mi Text book for how NOT to race your first Triathlon - front to back, beginning to end...training, pre-race, transition set-up, nutrition, gear, apparel....all of it. And by the end of the race...I couldn't wait to do it all again (and again, and again, and again.... )

Hi there - its been a while c'mon in! Man where have we gone. Need to get on a schedule to keep posting on a regular basis. Lots going on here in the triathlife household. Lets see here: Just came off a rest week so we are entering yet another volume building cycle of training. This week we will hit almost 12 hours if we get it all in. 3.5 hour bike on tap this weekend and we still are in the middle of kinda crap weather. And I don't buy that "well it could be raining or windy or crappy on race day" thinking. If I don't have to deal with the elements I don't. But this weekend my mind and my arse are kinda made up. I'm done with multiple hour training rides on the trainer. Besides...the DVR is almost empty. This past week we had swim, run and bike tests to gauge fitness. Jen rocked her swim and I kinda phoned mine in (fastest times at the start and finish with even Stephen in between). Jen ran out of her shoes for her run test. I actually said this
